On Foods and Karnival

This week is the commence of the new term for Imperial College. For us the PhD there isn't any different to it except the lift is going to be full which stops at every floor. The canteen is much more noisier and the walkway is crammed. I prefer the summer where it's quieter and much more peaceful. No offence to the undergraduates though. I just like my peace and quiet.

I'm home at the moment, having my monthly headache. I haven't write in a while. I've been so busy with my work. I'm in the verged of writing and publishing my own paper. I'm so excited. I hope this gets done before I went back in december. I just need for the testing and results to go smooth sailing.

Now, lets talk about food. Hehe.

Last 2 weeks London just had their first Pasar Malam in Tralfagar sq. Yes, who says only Malaysia can have Pasar Malam? It was realised by the Malaysian Kitchen community in the UK. It's a campaign to introduced Malaysian cuisine to the nation. Basically to promotes all the participated Malaysian restaurants in London mostly. You'll be surprised that there's actually hundreds of Malaysian Authentic restaurant here. I know I was.

So we went there in a hope to hunt for good foods but it was a disappointment that most of them has already finished by night fall. There was a lot of people but no queues. I thought they should have a big banner or a huge board above their booth to tell people what kind of foods they're offering. But anyway, it was so cold we decided to just go to the respective restaurant instead. Because [1], we don't have to queue, [2], we got to be served and [3] we can just sit and relax in the warmth of an heater.

All in all, the event was ok. There was also a few shows and introduction about the Malaysian culture on stage. One of our friend was the joget dancer. The time when he came to us saying hello I was so shocked I couldn't recognised him. Because he was wearing make up! Haha. A lot of make up in fact. Who knew that man could be wearing heavy make up for stages performance.

On the next day, we had another event attended. It was a belated Merdeka celebration. Because the 30th August fell on a fasting month, they decided to have the Merdeka karnival a little tad later in september. We have never failed to attend the karnival. There was also shows, family's games and most importantly booths selling authentic foods. All sorts of Malaysian foods like Apam balik, tepung pelita other kuih muih and varieties of rices. This is the time I would become a dinosaur and eat everything I can get.

Oh! Excuse me. Where is my manners. Come next year and taste this great food. Even better when the weather is a bit chilly.

One big fat Apam balik. The queue was undesirably long.

A friend's boy with a mix between a Malay and an Englishman. He's so cute. He's a poser.

Oh, and Afdlin was here too for a stand up comedy.

I've officially gained 4 more pounds. Now I wonder where did that came from??! *&$%£

Nah..It's easy to find. Just have to go to a restaurant somewhere somewhere . The thing is whether people is willing to travel and to splurge on some money on it or not. :) Because it can be quite expensive.

I'm staying just outside central. Yes, London is a bit crammed especially with people. You can't help but have a love/hate relationship with it :)
